Paul H and I went to Brixham yesterday to collect a few scallops during what are probably the last club dives of the year, aided by Nigel boathandling for us. The weather was good and hardly any wave action was apparent as we were sheltered from what wind there was, far less than Saturday. We had several goodie bags, lifting bags and a crate to keep things neat on the boat. The idea was to send up bags of scallops, Nigel would empty them into the crate and drop the bags back down the line to us while we filled others.

This worked fairly well although we made the job harder by using a buddy line - vis was not great. Paul fancied a coffee at about 40 mins so we ascended and were picked up. We sorted out the legal sized scallops of 100mm and threw the undersized ones back. We then proceeded to shell the scallops -much easier to do here than back home, no detritus to dispose of afterwards.

After the break, Paul and I re-entered the water for round 2. This time without the buddy line. Much easier and I think we collected more scallops in a shorter time. Although the drag did become hard work as the current picked up. Back on the boat we repeated the sizing and shelling while heading back to the slipway. We also had an edible crab, but we threw the 2 whelks I caught back.

A good day out. Parking at Brixham is currently £1.10 all day over the winter period, so much more reasonable than the summer charges.
