Myself, Chris, Dave, Christian and Les set off out of Teignmouth on Saturday to dive Watcombe Caves, when we got there they were something of a disappointment being only 7m on the sounder and there were nets in the openings so we took Mir round the corner and found a very pretty spot just off Anstey's Cove...
We put the shot in at around 11 metres to sort out some training. Dave and Christian also passed their assistant dive manager, doing a good job, well done chaps.
Chris took Christian in first and he passed his SMB, they saw a lovely cuttlefish, played with a dogfish, saw a topknot flatfish and various other critters and said they had a good dive. I took Dave in next for his navigation, he did very well (taking into account a rather large rock we had to circumnavigate), and there was a little bit of a current - we saw the dogfish that Chris and Christian had seen earlier, I only saw his tail swish past actually, I think he was still perhaps a little upset from being manhandled earlier!
We had an enjoyable dive, it was something of a mudflat off the reef, not much to see at all really, but we managed to play with some hermit crabs but not much else, this would make a nice shallow bimble if you skirt the reef as this wasn't too bad, a few pollock anyway and Dave said he saw a large fish, I was too busy looking in the other direction for large fish to spot it...
Chris then took Les in to practice his buoyancy which is getting better, well done Les. He was still smiling when he came up!
Well done to Dave as he is now a Sport Diver! Christian is not far behind and as soon as we can sort out another dive or two I'm sure he will also catch up with his dad.
Thanks again to all who turned up, it was a lovely day.
