Sat 17th Jan. First ever UK sea dive for Dan. Well done for diving (in a wet suit) whilst conditions were somewhat challenging. Viz was limited at 1 metre, thoughit wasn’t quite bad enough to use a buddy line.

Sunday 4th Jan – Club Dive. It was a lovely sunrise, but 8 people had to de-ice cars to dive at Beacon Cove. There was 3 metres viz, and lots of small things to see. The water was cold at 8C, the air 1C, but it was warm in the cafe after. Amazing video Charles!

1st Jan 2026 – New Years Day dive. Options were very limited for diving, but 6 of us managed to get invited to join the Torbay BSAC dive in the harbour.

Conditions were challenging, with viz varying between 50cms and zero, and only 8C water temperature. A good brunch warmed people after the dive.

Xmas diving – unfortunately, the ‘Beast from the East’ wind stopped all local diving for a while. Three of us tried diving during while the weather was bad, but the viz was only 30cms at best. You’ve got to be in it to win it … but sometimes the conditions stop us diving 🙁

Sunday 14th Dec. Santa Dive. Some club members got up early and went to the North Pole (actually Vobster Quay in Somerset), to raise money for charity.

Great fun doing some depth progression at Vobster Quarry last weekend, huge thank you to Dave and Nik! There was the added bonus of adding a Santa suit to my kit list; diving into the water surrounded by other diving Santas was really quite surreal. Definitely one to do again next year! Nikki.

Saturday 13th Dec. Club dive organised by Ben and Andy L. Seven divers defrosted cars and went to dive at Brixham Breakwater. Well done to Chris for completing his first UK sea dive – in somewhat challenging conditions. The viz was poor, but it was all good fun, and an excellent brunch after.

Friday 12th Dec. Chairmans Night. Well done to Nik for providing mulled wine and mince pies for the club members (good speech too). An almost full club house enjoyed the evening. The annual awards were presented by Phil T (Club Diving Officer) and a special award was made to Andy W for the amazing changes in the kit store.

Sunday 9th Nov. Underwater beach clean. 12 Exeter BSAC divers got in early to do an underwater clean around Babbacombe Beach. We had shore cover and surface help from other family members. The poor underwater viz made the task challenging, but we retrieved lots of broken fishing tackle and other rubbish. The divers had been well briefed, and no one got tangled in netting. The divers released both a lobster and a cat shark that were wrapped in fishing line. After the dive, we sorted out the litter, then went for a well earned brunch. An excellent mornings work – so well done to all. 🙂

Friday 7th Nov. Music Quiz hosted by Andy L. Wow – what an evening! It was great to see the clubhouse totally full with quizzers – with lots of classic music from 1970’s to now. Loads of helpers made the evening work well (Petra, Evie, Nik, Sally, Paula, Anne and Rick) plus a brilliant raffle run by Jake and Gemma. There was a bit of a sing along to the answer video but we’ll sing louder next time! Teams with those aged under 30 got additional points, for some of the pop songs were from before they were born! The lyric round was the most difficult – but it’ll be easier next time 🙂

1st Team Cilla Black 102 points – 2nd Quiz Peacocks 101 points – 3rd Scuba Tank Wranglers 95 points – 4th Quizlamic State 91 points – 5th Not in Andy’s Team 90 points – 6th The Wrinklies 89 points – 7th Ze Yoofs 86 points – 8th equal ExeCalibre 79 points and No idea 79 points – 10th Naughty Corner 68 points.

Next time there might be a small handicap for previous winners ……  🙂

Sunday 2nd Nov. Club dive organised by Nikki, Sally and Stevie. In the end 11 divers got in at Brixham, though the viz was somewhat limited. 3 Sports Diver trainees did some rescue skills, and it’s far more realistic to do these in the sea. The morning was nicely finished with brunch at the Sloop.

On Halloween, Sally gave a presentation on how to safely collect underwater rubbish. Some club members came dressed for the occasion and it was a lively evening of chat and sharing experiences. This was getting people ready for an ‘beach clean’ dive.

Friday 24th Oct. A talk on octopii. Nik organised Keith Hiscox to give us a great talk on the recent increase in octopus numbers. About 30 club members were entertained for almost an hour. He gave a lot of information about the life cycle, and (as divers) how recording sightings can help us understand things.

Our thanks goes out to Keith for his time.

Sunday 5th October. A great club dive organised by Sally. Eight divers got up early to catch the last of the autumn dives. Considering storm Amy has just gone through, the viz was great, and well done to Charles for an excellent video.

Scylla Dive – two full boat loads went and dived the Scylla wreck (off Plymouth). Sorry there are no photos.

Porthkerris weekend – A great time down there, organised by Jane and Charles. Loads of great diving, not dampened by the occasional torrential downpour 🙁       The weather was slightly against us, but it didn’t stop lots of people getting in the water.

A photo star!!

Well done to Jane for her winning entry in the Torbay Splash Photo cometition.

Thoroughly deserved for all the hard work and practice that you’ve put in with a camera. Well done Jane 🙂

September 2025

Well done to Craig H. and Jordan M for passing their Sports Diver certifications.

It’s hard work getting there, but well done.

That qualification is a good standard in diving, and accepted all over the world.
